WHAT IS THE STRESS RESPONSE?
The stress response is a primieval physiological trigger that instantly jerks your body into a FIGHT OR FLIGHT mode, when you are confronted with an external threat. This means that your body is turned on into a hyper-excited state to either fight the threat, or flee from it. Early human beings evolved with this response because, thousands of years ago, it was crucial for survival. They were constantly surrounded by natural dangers and 'life or death situations'. The stress 'fight or flight' response was vital to, say meet the threat of being eaten alive by a Sabre toothed tiger. So like it or not, we today have this system built into our bodies, a bequest from the past. It functions exactly the same now as it did then. | ||||
